Lots of flower first yearly spots on cycle path from University to Mumbles. In Swansea, there was the first appearance of the Meadow buttercup (Ranunculus acris). In Blackpill, the Blackthorn (Prunus spinosa) was in bloom and the Sea spurge (Euphorbia paralias) coming up. In Westcross, the Smooth sow thistle (Sonchus oleraceus) was flowering and, in Mumbles, the Grape hyacinth (Muscari neglectum) was about with a vengeance.
This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.
