This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

A Blooming Shame!
It has been estimated (http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2010/jul/07/flowering-plants-threat) that between 27 and 33% of flowering plants are threated with extinction. These figures are based on species that are known to be currently at risk combined with recent calculations on the numbers of as yet unidentified species that are 'out there'. This is without factoring in things like climate change. Pretty obviously, losses of the plants might well take a range of associated animal species with them.
