Leaping Lepidoptera!

The warm weather over the Easter bank holiday brought out a number of butterflies. Speckled woods (Pararge aegeria tircis) were seen in Bynea, Clyne and Loughor. Orange tips (Anthocharis cardamines) was seen at all those locations and Pembrey along with its food plant, the Cuckoo flower (Cardamines pratensis). Holly blues (Celestrina argiolus) were flitting in Loughor and Peacocks (Inachis io) and Red admirals (Vanessa atalanta). There was also more moth activity at night with Streamers (Anticlea derivata), Early greys (Xylocampa areola) and Brindled beauties (Lycia hirtaria). Also red Chrysomela populi beetles were seen in Loughor.
