What's In a Critter's Name? 31. Kangaroo

Legend has it, that James Cook took 'kangaroo' to be the name of this animal, when an aboriginal had actually replied 'I don't know/understand' to his question. It seems much more likely, however, this marsupial takes its name from 'gangurru', Aboriginal for 'black kangaroo'.
