Beans are an underappreciated food source. The many varieties of legumes are good for the soil and the atmosphere. They fix nitrogen and remove carbon dioxide. Beans are important sources of proteins, roughage and trace elements. Their production takes up much less space than meat-generating cattle and chickens. Beans also need much less water and don't generate problematic waste. They don't contain fats that damage human health. We should encourage folk to see beans as an important park of their diet. They certainly shouldn't be dismissed as second class food ingredients
This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.
