There seems to be quite an aversion developing to the use of nets around trees by house builders (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2019/apr/05/use-of-netting-to-stop-birds-nesting-before-housebuilding-rebuked). The nets are put in place to spot the birds nesting because, otherwise, they might have to delay tree removal until the breeding period has finished. It has unfortunately been noted that small birds can become trapped, with fatal consequences, in the nets. Given the profits of house builders, I think that delays should be fully accommodated.
This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

For the Birds?
