This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Inaction Plan?
UK Environmental Charities took their government's Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) to the High Court, for approving its 2023 Carbon Budget Delivery Plan (CBDP). The judge upheld most of the grounds for the legal challenge, opining that the DESNZ's decision to approve, was "simply not justified by the evidence" (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/article/2024/may/03/britain-climate-action-plan-unlawful-high-court). As usual, the DESNZ's response is that they are doing a magnificient job to reach their 'ambitious carbon budgets'. They are even 'doubling down', by allowing oil and gas drilling under offshore wind turbines locations. Why reserve areas, where renewable energy (wind power) can replace fossil fuels? You can clearly have your cake and eat it! It seems like the CBDP to nowhere. The UK's current government appears intent on making taking sensible environmental action as difficult as possible. Folk, wanting to build offshore wind turbines, are going to find the prospect of drilling near their expensive investments distinctly off-putting. It also undermines the whole point of renewables.
