Seeing the Changes 2060

On the Bynea/Penclacwydd border, Marsh mallow (Alphaea officinalis) and Hemp agrimony (Eupatorium cannabium) were in bloom. Spotted my first Red admiral (Vanessa atalanta) of the year.

This is really late to see my first Red admiral of the year here- no signs of Ringlets; Small tortoiseshells or Painted ladies. This place is becoming a Lepidopteran desert!

What's In a Critter's Name? 209. Mallard

Mallard is derived from the Old French 'malart' or 'mallart', meaning a wild drake.
