What's In a Critter's Name? 151. Robin

Anglo-Saxons called this bird the 'ruddoc' but, by the Middle Ages, 'redbreast' was in use. 'Robin' was added in the 15th or 16th Century, perhaps as an affectionate nickname, linking this bird to the legends of Robin Goodfellow/Robin Hood.
