This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Large Boar
Wild boar are the most destructive invasive species in the US (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2021/mar/15/feral-hogs-florida-pest-profitable-hunting). Some of the original boar, were brought to the country by the Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto. They promptly rewilded themselves. It is estimated there are now 9 million wild boar, roaming 39 of the US states. Texas has the most but Florida is 2nd, with about 0.5m. These animals cause much damage to the environment and to regular US wildlife but some people seem to regard them as a profitable (and tasty?) addition to hunting.
