This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

We Don't Learn?
The 2nd Annual Indicators of Global Climate Change Report is led by Leeds University. This multi-national exercise, records that global temperatures over the past decade (2914-2023), rose by 1.19 degrees Centigrade. This compares with a 1.14 degrees C. rise between 2013 and 2022. The report, takes into account natural weather fluctuations, like El Nino. Anthropogenic (human-caused) global heating is currently at an all-time high of 0.26 degrees C. per decade (https://www.leeds.ac.uk/news-environment/news/article/5587/rate-of-global-warming-caused-by-humans-at-an-all-time-high). So, humans are accelerating global temperatures, at a time when most countries have 'pledged' to work to solve the climate crisis. It's clearly not working. The 'window of opportunity' to limit damaging change is closing. Experts at Leeds University, suggest humanity has only 5 more years to sort things out. This contrasts with statements from some politicians. They appear to think climate change is a) a myth or b) a costly exercise that can be deferred for decades, to get votes. The prognosis doesn't look great!
