Forget Keeping 1.5 Alive ?

A 'renowned' climate scientist, James Hansen, has claimed that the climate change target of 2 degrees Centigrade (above Pre-Industrial levels) 'is dead'. He bases this largely on studies on emissions from shipping (especially the enormous cruisers, favoured by well-heeled holiday makers). The 'greenhouse gas' contributions of shipping is a relatively neglected, but growing,  concern. Hansen's conclusions are said to be at 'the high end' of predictions about the rate of climate change  (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2025/feb/04/climate-change-target-of-2c-is-dead-says-renowned-climate-scientist).  Science is based on probabilities. Something as complex as climate change (you are dealing with the entire globe, human populations, solar emissions fluctuations, extended time periods etc., etc.), is always going to result in varied 'predictions'. This is often interpreted by the public as a lack of accuracy. This is a feature certainly exploited by groups/individuals, with vested interests in continuing (and even exacerbating) their activities (digging oil and gas, boosting 'economic activity', running transport, selling holidays etc.). Climate change is certainly occurring and probably accelerating. Science, however, is always open to interpretation. Sadly, people love simple answers.
