A Nature Climate Change paper confirms that around 67% of global heating is caused by the planet's richest 10% . Half of the UK folk in full-time employment, can be included in that 10%. This wealthy cohort produces its disproportionate impact via a combination of life-style and investments. There's no doubt, however, that a tiny, mega-rich sub-set, with multiple houses, private jets, super-yachts and often with a penchant for space tourism, are the real environmental impactors. It's, of course, poor folk, living near the equator who suffer the worst consequences of their actions (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2025/may/07/two-thirds-of-global-heating-caused-by-richest-study-suggests). This suggests a logical role for wealth taxes to deal with climate change. Rich folk are, however, often capable of exerting political pressure to prevent/avoid such taxes. Some actions seem to be 'no-brainers', such as putting substantial taxes on jet aircraft fuel.
