This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The Red valerian (Centhranthus ruber) is coming into flower on a wall in Mumbles. The hoverfly Syrphus ribesii was flitting in this area and Oak trees had both Oak apples (galls of the wasp Biorhiza pallida) and Current galls (caused by the the sexual generation of the gall wasp Neuroterus quercusbaccarum).
