This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Antivaxx Central?
I have heard, privately, that Ukranians are quite relaxed about the Covid-19 pandemic (I suppose they have got other things to worry about?). I was still surprised, however, to read that 47% of the citizens of this country, do not want to receive a vaccine to counter the virus (https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-ukraine-idUSKCN2AT2EY). This sentiment, apparently, extends to some of their doctors, who have skipped their own appointments to receive the vaccine. This has resulted in some vaccine having to be discarded. Ukraine received 0.5m shots of the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine, made and donated by the Indian government. The evidence that this (and other) vaccines work exceedingly well is accumulating globally. This antivaxx sentiment needs to be overcome, before (it would only be a matter of time), the world is exposed to a 'Ukranian variant' of Covid-19.
