This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Spanish Wolves?
The wolf debate has spread to Spain. Spanish sheep farmers are mostly unhappy wolf hunting has now been banned north of the Duoro river (https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/mar/06/spanish-farmers-deeply-split-as-ban-on-hunting-wolves-is-extended). These farmers were generally relaxed, when the ban only applied in the South, where the wolf currently doesn't roam. A minority of farmers believe they can co-exist with wolves but it is difficult to have a balanced debate in this area. Sometimes, fears (realistic or not) carry the day. Conservation and farming are often difficult bedfellows.
