This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Alberta Burning
This year, there's already been almost 350 wildfires in Alberta. A week of hot weather in this area of Western Canada, has resulted in 13,000 people being ordered to evacuate their homes. More than 25,000 hectares of land have been burned (https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/may/05/canada-wildfires-thousands-evacuate-fox-lake-fire). It's pretty early in the year, for Canada, to have fires on such a scale. They take forest fires seriously in that country. Climate change will mean a really hot, dry summer in the North American continent. Things will be very much worse in July to September.
