This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Italy Feels the Heat?
Extreme weather events, with associated loss of life, are now hitting Italy. The Emilia-Romagna region recently received its annual average rainfall in 36 hours. There have also been landslides on Ischia and flash floods in Marche (https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/may/18/italy-disasters-floods-europe-climate-crisis). it's, of course, too soon to carry out a proper attribution study. It seems, however, extremely likely that these particular extreme (in both intensity and frequency) weather events are strongly linked to climate change. The consequences of 'greenhouse gas' emissions are being felt across Europe.
