This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Fiddling Whilst Rome Burns?
The human capacity for obsessing about trivia, seems almost infinite. The 'great replacement' conspiracy 'theory' is now being used to drive a 'trad wife' movement. This anti-feminist sect (actually with women influencers!), cajoles white females to stay home and have more babies. It's claimed they must do this, to prevent their 'race' being replaced by migrant folk from the global south (https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2023/may/31/white-supremacy-trad-wives-far-right-feminist-politics). There's a much more likely 'great replacement'. This is a replacement of the entire human species, as a direct consequence of anthropogenic climate change. Life would persist on the Earth but many species, including humans, would become extinct. The people, currently obsessed about being replaced by migrant folk from the global south, generally have a much greater influence on climate change. Perhaps the planet doesn't need more of them? It's also worth also repeating that, if humans in the developed world don't 'get their house in order', folk from the global south will few options. Migrating is one of them.
