Why Not Let the Entire Planet Take Part in FIFA Competitions?

FIFA is already increasing the participation in its 2026 World Cup from 32 to 48 teams. That event will also straggle Canada, Mexico and the US. Now, FIFA is even considering expanding its World Cup in 2030 to 64 teams. Emissions associated with this 4-yearly event are extraordinary. It's not only the teams that travel (generally by air) but their support staff, supporters, families, media; dignitaries etc., etc. Even more climate-changing emissions are also generated when (as in 2026), the venue moves over long distances from country to country (https://www.theguardian.com/football/2025/mar/06/fifa-will-consider-expanding-world-cup-to-64-teams-for-2030-tournament). Expansion is firmly entrenched in FIFA's DNA. More teams and more locations, means more money! The basic answer to the question posed in this post's heading is, 'because there won't be a viable planet, without curtailing of the greed'. There's no such thing as a 'green' international sporting event. Forget about soccer's claimed ability to produce world peace!
