When Did They Come to the UK? 2. The Grey Squirrel

The Grey squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis) was introduced to England from North America in 1876. It was used as an ornamental species, to populate the grounds of stately homes (e.g. Henbury Park in Cheshire).
