Jumbo Die-Off?

There appears to be a tragic, mass mortality of African elephant in the inland Okavango delta of northern Botswana (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2020/jul/01/more-than-350-elephants-dead-in-mysterious-mass-die-off-botswana-aoe). Some 350 carcasses (not obviously killed by poachers) have been found in the region. Some people have claimed that many of the deaths occur around water-holes but tests have not yet been carried out on either the water or samples from the elephants. It clearly represents a conservation disaster. Another of my ex-students, Dr Kate Evans (@elephantkate) who has worked in the delta, will be devastated!
