Scientific examination of the official dietary advice given to the populations of 85 countries suggests to that much of it is problematical (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2020/jul/15/governments-dietary-guidelines-are-harming-the-planet-study-finds). Only 2 countries delivered dietary guidelines that were in line with acknowledged human health considerations as well as climate and pollution targets. I'm sure that this will be applauded, in many circles, as evidence of resistance to 'the nanny state' but there is little doubt that current guidance for many can be linked to millions of early deaths (the food we habitually eat can be a killer). It is also clear that food production is linked to climate change (also not good for the planet or the people living on it). It would be good if governments listened to scientists with the same intensity they use for food producers. One has to admit, however, that the latter have more cash and consumption is a lively tune.
This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

You Are (Largely) What Your Government Tells You to Eat
