Lights Going Out?

The news that the Japanese Company, Hitachi, has decided to pull out of its plans to build the £16bn Wylfa Newydd nuclear powerstation on Anglesey comes as only limited surprise ( https://www.theguardian.com/business/2020/sep/15/hitachi-to-pull-plug-on-north-wales-nuclear-power-station ). Many of the foreign companies that fought to replace the UK's aging nuclear power production of electricity, have apparently decided that the changed economic climate (post the Covid-19 pandemic) make it too dangerous for a company (no matter how large) to take on the financial risks. Some will, no doubt, be hoping that the UK government puts more of its own money into such developments. The loss of nuclear power (irrespective of safety considerations) knocks an enormous hole in the country's alledged aim to move towards a carbon neutral economy.
