This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Eagles Don't Make Financial Contributions
A West Dorset MP has said that reintroduced White-tailed eagles are unwelcome in his constituency (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2022/feb/15/mp-eagles-not-welcome-constituency-received-funds-shooting-estate-chris-loder). That same MP, suggested that police should waste little time trying to catch people who kill eagles. It's unsurprising to hear that he has received £14000 in funds from the Ilchester Estate (owners of the Abbotsbury Swannery). The Ilchester Estate makes some of its money (the owner is worth about £500m) by getting punters to shoot gamebirds on the land. If my memory serves me right, this is the same Ilchester Estate that refused prestigious protection designations for their land, because they objected to the banning of fox hunting.
