This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

When 'Scrutiny' is a Euphemism?
The UK is currently world class in terms of setting targets but really poor in terms of decarbonisation delivery. A Net Zero Scrutiny Group (NZSG) has come together in parliament (https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2022/feb/01/tory-faction-net-zero-brexit-green-policies). One might have assumed that an NZSG would be intent on getting the UK government's stance on climate, to produce the urgently needed changes in emissions. You would be very wrong. The NZSG's focus is to attempt to blame even minimally-effective climate policies, for the cost-of-living crisis. They blame energy policies (rather than profit taking) for soaring energy bills. The NZSG appear to think that the planet has all the time in the world. Perhaps it does, with or without life as we know it. The group apparently want more stimulus for oil and gas exploration, as well as a return to coal. The NZSG also want the removal of any green levies linked to improved home insulation. Such people are dangerous.
