Where Eagles Dare?

In the UK, White tailed eagles were persecuted to extinction by the 18th Century. These birds have subsequently been successfully reintroduced to Scotland. Since 2019, 25 White tailed eagles have been released in Southern England on the Isle of Wight. The birds widely disperse in coastal areas but 2 of the releases have now been recently found dead (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2022/feb/10/two-white-tailed-eagles-found-dead-in-southern-england). Police are investigating the deaths. The bird carcasses are being examined for physical injuries and/or poisons. It is now illegal to kill eagles but they are still perceived as being a threat to the gamebird industry. Wilder suggestions, that eagles can kill lambs, are just not credible but could also motivate crimes. One has to be very thorough in such investigations, as conflict between eagles and/or starvation/disease, could be innocent causes of death in these top predators.
