This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

'Killing' Two Versions With One Jab
The UK's Medical and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has approved Moderna's 'Spikevax bivalent Original/Omicron' for use in this country (https://www.gov.uk/government/news/first-bivalent-covid-19-booster-vaccine-approved-by-uk-medicines-regulator).'Spikevax bivalent Original/Omicron' vaccine is a booster for Covid protection due to be rolled out this Autumn (Fall) to vulnerable folk and people over 50. It's the first bivalent vaccine to be approved by the MHRA. This mRNA vaccine equally targets both the original 2020 'Wuhan' virus and the now dominant Omicron variant. 'Spikevax bivalent Original/Omicron' produces a strong immune response to both viral versions, as well as having only mild side-effects. This booster should be effective against contracting an infection as well as providing protection from severe consequences, if such an infection occurs. The availability of this new Moderna preparation could, however, reduce public enthusiasm for other vaccines. Joe Public can be fussy! It needs to be strongly emphasized that any booster is better than no booster.
