This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Compilation of Climate Chaos
The Guardian newspaper has published a compilation of studies on the impacts of extreme weather events. It includes heatwaves, floods, wildfires and droughts. It uses the attribution technique to assess how much worse or more likely each extreme weather event was made by 'greenhouse gas' emissions causing global heating (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2022/aug/04/climate-breakdown-supercharging-extreme-weather). This is not a happy read. What is being seen now, is occurring when global temperatures are just over one degree Centigrade above pre-Industrial levels. It seems likely that global heating will get to 2.5 degrees Centigrade above. The changes on the climate will not be a simple progression. So-called 'tipping points' will chane the whole dynamic of change. Humans, however, appear to have an infinite capacity to be distracted from taking meaningful remedial action?
