This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

End of the 'Magic Buses'?
During the Covid pandemic, special grants 'propped up' certain English bus routes. These grants are about to be discontinued. The Confederation of Passenger Transport reports that there are 'only days' before some bus companies will have to decide that routes are now 'uneconomic' (https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2022/aug/14/bus-services-cuts-transport-covid-recovery-grants). This is not a fortuitous time to discontinue bus services. Not everyone, in this current 'cost of living crisis', will be able to own/run a car. People may still need transport to reach their place of work/education. One would like to see more folk routinely using public transport. Public transport results in its users having lower carbon footprints. Buses can be one way of minimising climate change.
