This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Bringing Home the Bacon (Illegally)?
A man in Huelva (Southern Spain) has been jailed for stealing 7000 hams (https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/aug/09/spanish-man-jailed-for-stealing-520000-of-ham-from-employers). The jamon-thief took the hams from his employer's warehouse, over 6 years. The hams were sold, giving him a 'nice little (additional) earner'. The man's thefts, defrauded his employers of more than half a million euros. The thief could have received a sentence of up to 6 years. He will, however, actually spend less than a year inside.
