Interesting news that a total of 7 landowners in Dorset have agreed to combine their lands to create the first UK Super National Nature Reserve (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2020/mar/17/uks-first-super-national-nature-reserve-created-in-dorset). The Purbeck Heath in Dorset will be a substantial area of rare heathland that will be home to all 6 of the native species of reptiles, rare birds and butterflies as well as carnivorous plants. The hope is that the interconnectivity will make the area easier to manage (by humans, who have to prevent it reverting to scrubland) and better for the animal residents to navigate.
This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.
