For Peat's Sake!

The plan to drill for oil in the giant Congo Peat bog (having about the same land surface as the UK) seems wrong on so many levels (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2020/feb/28/ridiculous-plan-to-drain-congo-peat-bog-could-release-vast-amount-of-carbon-aoe). Peat is an excellent store of atmospheric carbon and we would be sacrificing this beneficial role. Further, we need to be cutting down on our use for hydrocarbons, rather than encouraging their use. Even worse, it has been estimated that the carbon released by this activity is equivalent to the total annually released by Japan (and I'm willing to bet that some methane would get out).
