This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Removing the UK Car Addict's Road 'Fix'?
In the 10 years since 2012, 3.1m more private cars were registered in the UK. This is an astounding 11% increase. Campaigners are now saying that the UK government's road-focused transport policies simply makes things worse (https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2022/oct/09/roads-focused-policy-fuels-uks-car-addiction-campaigners-say). Campaigners point out that 75% of current transport projects announced by the UK government, are road-related. This, they think, just encourages people to buy more cars. The roads then become more congested. So, yet more roads are planned. The numbers of private cars in the UK will have to decline to reduce injuries/deaths; improve air quality; limit 'greenhouse gas' emissions and to save energy. There are alternatives to repeatedly pandering to the motoring and car-building lobbys.
