This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

It's Not Too Late?
The Chair of the UK's Climate Change Committee advocates the government adopting an urgent plan to insulate British homes for this coming winter (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2022/oct/03/not-too-late-to-insulate-homes-this-winter-says-lord-deben). As the Chair says "What we have to do for net zero is what we have to do for the cost of living crisis". Fracking shale deposits and 'squeezing the last drop of oil from the North Sea' appear to be current government favourites. Neither will, in contrast, do anything to keep UK houses warmer and households solvent. Doing 'our bit' to limit the climate crisis is a longer term bonus. Home insulation can also be done relatively quickly, so long as materials and trained fitters are put in place.
