This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Climate Change in the Biology Class Keeps a Low Profile
North Carolina State University have surveyed College level Biology textbooks produced over the last 50 years. Although the challenges of climate change have long been evident, the topic seems to receive scant coverage (https://www.theguardian.com/science/2022/dec/21/us-college-textbooks-not-addressing-climate-crisis-study). Coverage of climate change solutions expanded since the 1970s. In the 1990s, the issues received improved prominence. Strangely, however, an emphasis on global heating declined, by 80%, in recent texts. For example, fewer than 3 pages in a recent Biology textbook of 1000 pages address climate change. it seems very odd that the single most urgent 'biological' issue receives so little attention in early Biology degree courses.
