This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Smear Campaign
The Sublime Butter company are now selling 150 g blocks of their Number 78 butter, in 'high-end' shops for £55. Number 78 is 'infused' with Iberico ham, carabineros prawns, sherry and Spanish saffron. The same version, with its own 'handmade' dish, costs £105 (https://www.theguardian.com/food/2022/dec/16/i-cant-believe-its-not-cheaper-than-50-quid-the-uks-poshest-butter). This product seems more than a little provocative, when the cost of living crisis is making 'ordinary' butter, a luxury item for thousands of people. There's a distinct shade of Harry Enfield and his Thatcher-era 'loads of money' caricature. I suspect that, having the 'handmade' dish, is a clear signal that, after all, you are 'worth it'.
