This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Snake Sex
Male snakes have 2 penises. It has now been established that their female counterparts have 2 hemi-clitorises (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2022/dec/14/snakes-have-a-clitoris-scientists-overcome-a-massive-taboo-around-female-genitalia). That snakes even have a clitoris, appears to have been overlooked as a consequence of a general taboo about examining the female reproductive tract. In early times, the female snake's clitoris as mis-identified as a scent marking gland or an undeveloped version of the male's penis. There seems to be plenty of scope here for the 'bush tucker trials' in I'm a Celebrity: Get Me Out of Here!
