This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

From Cornwall to the Stars!
The UK Civil Aviation Authority have issued a licence for Richard Branston's Virgin Orbit company to launch space flights from its Cornish base. These flights may commence early in 2023 (https://www.theguardian.com/science/2022/dec/21/cornwall-space-project-given-licence-to-launch-by-regulator). Space tourism generates massive 'greenhouse gas' emissions. One might ask, whether these emissions will be included in the UK's totals? The UK has an obligation to reach net zero for carbon emissions. If not, why not? If so, where are cuts/changes to be made to mitigate them? Planting a few trees for the fat cats, ain't going to do it!
