This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

This 'Limit' Breathed Its Last Sometime Ago?
The UN head, Antonio Guterres, says that the goal of limiting global heating to 1.5 degrees Centigrade (above pre-Industrial levels) is "gasping for breath" (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2022/dec/19/climate-goal-15c-gasping-breath-un-head-antonio-guterres). Guterres opines that there is an urgent need to accelerate the rate of change in 'greenhouse gas' emissions. He does have to try to maintain the somewhat arbitrary 'limit' advocated in Paris but a) It's by no means certain that 1.5 is 'safe' and b) all the indications are that it breathed its last, sometime ago!
