La Bollente Vita?

This week, anticyclone 'Cerberus' (named after the guardian dog in Dante's Inferno) is predicted to produce temperatures of between 47 and 48 degrees C on the Italian islands of Sicily and Sardinia. There's also, of course, going to be record temperatures on mainland Italy. This same heatwave is simultaneously massively impacting on France, Germany, Poland and Spain (https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/jul/10/italy-heatwave-temperatures-european-record-forecast). In Spain, the Sea and Land Surface Temperature Radiometer instrument, aboard the Copernicus Sentinel-3 satellites, has recorded land temperatures of 60 degrees C in parts of Extremadura. Cities across Europe have been placed on red alert, as there will be heat deaths. The very young and the very old are, as usual, the most vulnerable. How much more warning of potentially unliveable climate change do we need? Still, some folk maintain we need more coal, oil and gas!
