This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Self Interest Rools, OK?
A Nasa expert has predicted that July 2023 will be the hottest month ever recorded (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2023/jul/20/nasa-climate-crisis-july-hottest-month). It's consequently somewhat disappointing to read that the G20 (the 20 richest nations) in their meeing in India were unable to meet a consensus on 'phasing down fossil fuels' (https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/jul/22/g20-countries-fail-to-reach-agreement-on-cutting-fossil-fuels). It was, predictably, impossible to reach a consensus at the G20, because oil and gas producer countries objected. They also couldn't agree on raising and allocating a $100bn 'war-chest' for climate action. The G20 nations currently produce 75% of global 'greenhouse gas' emissions. Self interest by rich nations seems to trump everything else, even whilst the planet burns.
