This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

UK Climate 'Pledges': Hardly Worth the Paper They Are Written On?
One must be less than surprised the UK is reportedly dropping its £11.6bn Cop15 'pledge'. The 'pledge was made to help developing countries deal with their developing climate and biodiversity issues. The initial thinking behind the 'pledge' was that, although richer developed nations were a main cause of climate change, the poorer developing nations had to deal with many of its consequences (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2023/jul/04/revealed-uk-plans-to-drop-flagship-climate-pledge-rishi-sunak). The UK has always been a 'world leader' when making 'pledges'. Recently, however, the country has become highly skilled in reneging on them. The UK is apparently in a different economic place and has to relabel some of its outgoings. Then, again, 'pledges' are cheap. Action's more expensive.
