This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

The Deep South (of Europe)
Italy, Greece, Spain and Morocco are all predicted to reach record temperatures on Tuesday. This will be second heatwave in a week. The ambient temperature could reach 49 degrees Centigrade in Italy. This may all sound like happy holiday weather but it's dangerous to human health (https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/jul/16/thousands-forced-out-of-homes-la-palma-canary-islands-as-heatwave-grips-europe). A major concern must be tourists who are often unfamiliar with the sun. They are likely to be more at risk than the locals.
