It is depressing to read that Canada, with a generally highly educated 0.5% of the world's population, and all sorts of means of producing carbon neutral power, appears hell-bent on using up a substantial amount of the world's carbon credits by exploiting the tar sands deposits in that country (https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/feb/05/when-it-comes-to-climate-hypocrisy-canadas-leaders-have-reached-a-new-low). This is apparently so even as their politicians express concerns about climate change (they are fully aware of what is going on in the Arctic). It's clearly another case of riches now trumping the need to do something for tomorrow.
This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.
