And the Magic Word is 'Industry'

Just listened to the news at home in Wales. The travel industry is up in arms. The industry wants people to be free to travel to most locations pronto. They also want the 'expensive' Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test dropped for double-vaccinated travellers. Some medics warn, however, that without a mandatory PCR test, the country would have no opportunity to identify Covid variants, as they come into the country from foreign locations (https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/sep/17/uk-scientist-warns-relaxation-covid-travel-rules-genome-surveillance ). The travel industry appears more worried about the cost of the PCR tests 'disincentising people from travelling abroad on holiday'. In Wales, the nightclub industry (along with major sporting events industries) is concerned about a new requirement, coming in in October, for entry to clubs or stadia. People will need a Covid pass to get in (https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/video/2021/sep/17/covid-passes-made-mandatory-for-welsh-nightclubs-and-large-events-video). A Covid pass is apparently not quite the same as a Covid passport (as in Scotland). A Pass shows the individual has been double vaccinated or has provided evidence of a recent negative lateral flow test (i.e. it caters for people who refuse/cannot have a vaccination). Concomitantly, the cinema industry is also hoping that the new James Bond film will pack people back into their venues. What is very evident in all these cases, is that representatives, speaking on behalf of each sector, very pointedly used the word 'industry'. I can certainly see why people are concerned about the impact of the Covid19 pandemic on the profitability of 'their' sector. It seems to me, however, that, by stressing industry, they are twisting the arm of government to relax protections too quickly. I don't expect they will express any remorse, if things turn nasty. They will say they 'were only fighting their corner'. Many of these industries will also have to change, if we are to do something meaningful about climate change.
