This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

The Komodo dragon has been added to the 'red list' of species threatened with extinction in their natural habitat (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2021/sep/04/komodo-dragon-climate-crisis-sea-levels-rise-extinction-aoe). The Komodo dragon is the world's largest lizard. This reptile is only found on a few Indonesian islands. Climate change is raising sea levels and shrinking the dragon's habitat. The dragon is a generally solitary beast and hunts for deer and other mammals on the islands. It has a toxic bite.
