This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

I Wouldn't Put It Pasta
Durum wheat is the major ingredient in pasta. Pasta is an excellent food that needs no peeling. It seems, however, that durum wheat will increase in price by 90% (https://www.theguardian.com/food/2021/sep/09/penne-in-your-pocket-uk-shoppers-could-pay-up-to-50-more-for-pasta). This is largely a consequence of a drought-devastated harvest in Canada. Canada is a major supplier of durum wheat. It is calculated that this, and an Italian supply problem, will increase the cost of pasta to UK shoppers, by 50%. This is, of course, if truck drivers can be found to deliver this food to UK stores. Climate change and Brexit, conspiring to stop a favourite food!
