This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Earning Their Stripes?
Five zebras went on the run from a private farm in Prince George's County, Maryland, USA. The animals have proved to be elusive critters (https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/sep/10/zebras-escape-maryland). The zebras have been too fast and too nervous of people, thus far, for the Prince George County Animal Services Department. These animals have been on the loose for more than a week. Although the zebras are finding their own grazing, it is hoped to entice them by setting up a feeding station. Only on their recapture, will the Animal Services Department have earned their stripes.
