This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Lichen Spacemen?
As a Zoologist, I knew that Tardigrades (or 'Water bears') could survive the temperatures and cosmic radiation of space. I did not know until now, however, that Lichens (fungal/algal symbionts) were even tougher! Will it be much of a consolation for humans, if they manage to boil the planet, to know there might eventually be herds of giant tardigrades roaming the boundless fields of lichen? Only asking for a friend.
